I qualified as a Solicitor in 1970 and as a Mediator in 2000. As a Solicitor prior to becoming an accredited Mediator I had been involved in over 20 mediations and since then a similar number. As a Mediator I am currently appointed on average about 10 times per year. Mediations conducted have included disputes relating to dilapidations, breach of covenant in landlord and tenant disputes, the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, escape of water, rights of way, adverse possession and pretty well the whole gamut of property disputes.
My standard rate is £2,000 plus VAT for a normal day which includes preparation time.
Current success rate is in excess of 85%.
I am pleased to say that a significant number of solicitors, often from the PLA, have now appointed me on more than one occasion. I have had extremely complimentary feedback from parties, solicitors and observers. I find mediation to be enormously satisfying and enjoyable (if exhausting) and look forward to increasing my mediations up to a level of around 20/30 a year.
Update August 2011
I have now completed well over 30 mediations, and the rate of agreements reached is increasing. I have been appointed by major firms such as Barlow Lyde and Gilbert and Hogan Lovells several times, as well as a whole range of large, medium and smaller firms.
I am also now happy to accept appointments in LEEDS. This will be on the same fee basis as for London, as I can combine work with a visit to my daughter and grandchildren there.
