As a dually qualified chartered surveyor and solicitor, I always try to find a balance between interpreting the law and achieving commercial solutions. My background as a commercial surveyor often proves useful for understanding the nature of property disputes and the commercial aspects needed to resolve them.
As the partner in charge of Property Dispute Resolution at Payne Hicks Beach I specialise in lease renewal, rent review, service charge, dilapidations, break notices, property management and landlord and tenant disputes. I also deal with commission disputes, valuation negligence, terms of engagement, compulsory purchase, statutory valuation disputes and possession/occupational disputes and other types of property and commercial disputes.
My experience includes high profile valuation negligence (Lewisham Investment Partnership Limited v Morgan [1997] PLSCS292), conflicts of interest/rent review/arbitration (Save & Prosper v Homebase Limited [2000], break clauses and dilapidations (Riverside Investments v Blackhawk Automotive [2005] 01EG94CS), interference with rights of way, recovery of costs and improvements (Crane Road Properties LLP v Hundalani [2006] EWHC2006 Ch[2006] PLSCS191) and service charges/LVT and Lands Tribunal matters (Barrington v Sloane Properties [2007] 40EG268).
I am also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
