THE ALAN LANGLEBEN MEMORIAL ESSAY COMPETITION 2018
OPEN TO ALL PLA MEMBERS
Many of you will remember our longstanding and much missed member, Alan Langleben, who sadly passed away in 2016. The Association established a Memorial Essay Competition at that time in Alan’s memory. Alan was a staunch supporter of our Association from its early days and was, in particular, a much admired and respected member of our Law Reform Committee.
We have now launched the Memorial Essay Competition again and welcome submissions from PLA members on the below question.
“Reforming commercial leasehold property law is conspicuously absent from the Law Commission’s 13th Programme of Law Reform. If you could change any law in this particular area, what would that be and why is it important to anyone occupying or investing in UK real estate in 2018?”
- The essay must be no more than 1,500 (one thousand five hundred) words in length.
- Competitors must state on the front of their essay submission their name, address and email address.
All submissions must be sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org to be received no later than 5pm on Friday, 2 March 2018 (extended from the previously announced deadline of 28 February). We recommend that you set an ’email read’ receipt to ensure that your submission has been received.
There will be a prize in the form of a cheque for £1,000 for the winning entry and a trophy. In addition, the winner will be entitled to use the designation ‘Recipient of the Alan Langleben Memorial Essay Prize’. The winning essay will also be published in the Estates Gazette. The winner will be announced at the PLA’s Annual Conference in March.
