Steven Francis was a barristers’ clerk for over 38 years, 16 years of those as the Senior (Head) Clerk at Falcon Chambers.  During his years with Falcon Chambers, he was clerk to leading property silks such as Nicholas Dowding QC, Martin Rodger QC (Deputy President of the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber)), Mr Justice Morgan, Lord Justice Kim Lewison and Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury.  His only time spent working at a different Chambers was during the early 1980s, when one of the historical quirks of clerking meant that he spent just under 2 years known as “James”.

Steve has a wealth of experience dealing with the numerous issues and situations that can arise between those delivering and receiving instructions to barristers, which he has encapsulated within various training presentations.  His training topics include:

  • How to get what you need from your barrister (and when you need it)
  • Key points for improving communication and relationships
  • Pricing and negotiation

Feedback from Steve’s presentations includes:

“A useful and entertaining insight into barristers’ chambers and how they are run, together with handy tips on how to get the best out of clerks and barristers, including on the murky question of fees.  Essential for junior solicitors, but also worthwhile for those with more experience.” (Trowers & Hamlins)

When not delivering training presentations, Steve can usually be found in the gym, watching rugby or persevering with his endless quest to improve his golf handicap.
