A NETWORKING AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP EVENT FOR LEADERS IN PROPERTY LITIGATION

As a leading practitioner in property litigation, the PLA would like to invite you to a special event designed to be a networking and thought leadership opportunity for those at the very top of the profession.

The Law Commission is beginning the process of identifying potential law reform projects to be tested in a formal public consultation on its 14th Programme of Law Reform, likely to take place in 2021. This is the focus of our next PLA Leaders’ event, and we are pleased to welcome Professor Nicholas Hopkins, Law Commissioner for property, family and trust law, as a very special guest.

Under the Law Commission Act 1965, the Law Commission is required to submit programmes of law reform to the Lord Chancellor and every three or four years it sets out the areas it intends to work on for the next few years. The Law Commission’s last programme – its thirteenth – was launched in 2017 and heralded the root and branch reform of residential leasehold law now proposed. Tantalisingly, it concluded that a project to address problems with commercial leasehold law had “extensive and cross-industry support” and “could be undertaken in the future”.

The Law Commission’s next Programme, therefore, provides a rare opportunity for PLA members genuinely to help shape the future of property law, including by sharing with Professor Hopkins our insights as property litigation specialists and thoughts on prioritising different areas of law reform ahead of a full public consultation.

Following last year’s successful event with Sir Rupert Jackson, this event is the second in a series aimed at enabling leaders in property litigation to share their views with each other and those at the heart of big issues facing the industry, as well as an opportunity to network with peers.

Due to COVID-19 related social distancing measures, the event will be take place by Zoom. Attendees are welcome to supply their own drinks and canapés!
