Traditional retail is in a state of flux, driven for the most part by the ongoing shift to online and changes in consumer behaviour. In the UK, more recently, this has been compounded by rising costs such as business rates and the minimum wage, not to mention Brexit-related uncertainty.
As many UK retailers continue to struggle to adapt to the changing landscape and similar trends begin to unfold in Continental Europe, Darren Yates and Silvia Jodlowski from Cushman & Wakefield’s EMEA Retail Research team will provide an analysis of the underlying trends in the sector and give their views on how developments in technology and consumer behaviour are set to change the face of retail even further.
This event will be of great interest to everyone active in retail real estate and members are encouraged to invite guests. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session which promises to be a lively and interesting discussion. Following the formal part of the programme, we will adjourn for drinks, discussion and the opportunity to chat further with the speakers.
Darren Yates is Head of EMEA Retail Research & Insight for Cushman & Wakefield. He has over twenty years’ experience in property market analysis and has covered a wide range of sectors and markets. Darren began his career with Healey & Baker in 1996 as a European Retail Analyst which focused mainly on site-specific work and shopping centre feasibility analysis around Europe. Since then, most of his career has been with Cushman & Wakefield with spells away at Knight Frank (as Head of Global Capital Markets Research) and Carter Jonas (as Head of Research).
Silvia Jodlowski works alongside Darren and contributes to a range of reports which analyse trends in European retail property markets. She is the lead author on the European Shopping Centre and Retail Park Development reports and contributes to Cushman & Wakefield’s global flagship publication Main Streets Across the World. Before taking up her role with Cushman & Wakefield in 2015, Silvia worked as a Site Research Specialist for Tesco in Slovakia. This involved advising the acquisition department on the potential future development of sites, ideal store formats and sales forecasts.
