A blog from the Chair of the PLA Education & Training Committee, Rebecca Campbell,

Hello everyone,

This is your Education & Training Committee (ETC) Chair, Rebecca Campbell. I do hope that you are all keeping well.

It was with a heavy heart that the PLA took the difficult decision to cancel our two flagship training events for 2020, the Annual Conference and the Autumn Training Day, due to the ongoing social distancing restrictions.

Huge thanks to Tim Power for his superb organisational skills and the unwavering support given to the ETC in dealing with the very late postponement and subsequent cancellation of the Conference.

Whilst we recognise that it is impossible to re-create the buzz of having 250 members together in an auditorium, the ETC have been working hard to plan a virtual training programme with a difference!

In a first for the PLA, please join us for a series of three seminars that will be live streamed for all members free of charge on 10, 17 and 24 November 2020 at 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Each seminar will also feature live Q&A sessions.

Please join us for the PLA Autumn Trilogy:

Part 1 – 10 November 2020
Jonathan Seitler QC (Wilberforce Chambers)
‘The Top 10 Ways of Getting Out of Slam-Dunk Contractual Obligations’

Panel Debate (Featuring legal and industry experts)
‘What will be the lasting impact of Covid-19 on Property Industry?’

Part 2 – 17 November 2020
David Holland QC and Myriam Stacey (Landmark Chambers)
‘Are Commercial Leases Fit for Purpose?’

Upper Tribunal Judge Elizabeth Cooke
‘Telecoms case law update – a view from the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber)’

Part 3 – 24 November 2020
Guy Featherstonhaugh QC (Falcon Chambers)
‘Case Law Kaleidoscope 2020’

Raquel Agnello QC (Erskine Chambers)
‘Tenant Insolvency – Has the Tide Turned for Landlords?’

Booking will open shortly with full details of how to register.

Planning ahead…2021 and beyond

Finally, the ETC and Tim Power are working on our plans for training events in 2021 and beyond.

We realise that it is vital that our event plans are as flexible and as versatile as possible so that we can adapt to comply with national and local restrictions, according to what the situation will allow.

We are aiming to arrange hybrid events that will allow for both in-person attendance and online live-streaming, to ensure members do not miss out.

Further details will be announced shortly, so please watch this space!

In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me at rebecca.campbell@bclplaw.com or Tim Power at timpower@tpsnorfolk.co.uk if you have any questions about the Autumn Trilogy or any feedback or suggestions for training events.

With very best wishes,

Rebecca Campbell
