The JAC have launched a campaign to identify two candidates to recommend for the post of Deputy Chancery Master.

Overview of the role

The JAC have launched a campaign to identify to identify two candidates to recommend for the post of Deputy Chancery Master. Deputy Masters of the Chancery Division are part of the second tier judiciary in the High Court. They are responsible for exercising the jurisdiction of the Chancery Division where that jurisdiction is not exercised by a High Court Judge, other than where the jurisdiction is reserved (such as the Financial List and the Patents Court).

The specialist work of the Chancery Division is part of the Business and Property Courts (B&PCs) of England and Wales based at the Rolls Building in London. Deputy Masters manage and hear cases in the Business List, the Competition List, the Intellectual Property List and the Property Trusts and Probate List. The work is often complex and challenging. It includes a substantial amount of business and commercial litigation, some of which has a foreign element. Other work includes professional negligence claims, IP claims such as trademarks and passing off, claims relating to real property, will disputes, probate and trust work, pension claims, competition law.
