The PLA 7,000 Steps Challenge

The PLA 7,000 Steps Challenge

Overview

New research published earlier this year, suggests that walking about 7,000 steps a day is sufficient to achieve significant health benefits, including lower risks of dementia, heart disease, cancer, and all-cause mortality. Any increase in daily steps from a sedentary level offers health gains, making a 7,000-step goal a realistic target for improving overall well-being.

The 7,000 Steps Challenge will be the Wellbeing Committee’s 30th Anniversary badged wellness event where members aim to walk at least 7,000 steps per day over a set period (in this case, 30 days in November). Participants track their steps using pedometers, smartphones, or wearable fitness devices and join in the challenge via the Stridekick Pro app.
